With the increase in sales of motor vehicles across the United States and other countries across the globe, purchasing a car can be a daunting task. One is not likely to walk into a car dealership and purchase a vehicle on display without taking time to think through their decisions. A potential buyer is more likely to compare prices, safety, fuel consumption, and maintenance costs before making an informed decision. When Bill and Sheila wanted to buy a vehicle for their sixteen-year-old daughter, safety was the first quality in their minds (Lindstrom, 2014). This ruled out some cars, such as Dodge Charger and Ford Mustang, which had lower safety standard features. In this case, they used the five steps in project management: initiation, planning, execution, control, and closing to purchase their vehicles.
In the initiation phase, buyers decide to purchase a car. In the case study, Bill and Sheila’s daughter wanted to drive something ‘fun’ which suited Jeep Wrangler’s specifics but had to go for another option since it consumed a lot of fuel ((Lindstrom, 2014).
