Servant Leadership is Deeply Rooted in Moral and Spiritual Dimensions
Servant leadership is deeply rooted in moral and spiritual dimensions. Leaders are responsible for their followers’ moral and spiritual well-being, which are critical ingredients in servant leadership (Obi et al., 2021). In the contemporary business world, leadership continues to lose confidence and there has been an increased interest in servant leadership models urging leaders to set aside their self-interests for the betterment of society (Freeman, 2011). Scholars have explored the concepts of spirituality and morality and their impacts on the formation and effectiveness of servant leadership. Results from these studies show that spiritual beliefs and practices act as causal and moderating variables for servant leadership. According to Freeman (2011), moral and spiritual practices such as belief and faith in God, meditating, reading scriptures, and praying are essential for effective servant leadership as perceived by followers. These findings show that servant leadership does not exist without spiritual and moral dimensions.
