The decision-making concept within an organization can encompass programmed and non-programmed decisions. Programmed conclusions are often regular, properly structured, and follow specific guidelines or processes. They are sometimes based on predetermined or past rules and experiences. Unique examples of these decision types include customer services response, workers scheduling, and replacing inventories. However, the non-programmed decisions can be complex, less regular, and necessitate thoughtfulness because they need clear procedures or guidelines, thus challenging to tackle. Examples include risk management or planning and solving problems using critical thinking. A problem’s nature and its influence on a specific firm determines the choice between the different decisions (McShane & Von Glinow, 2020; Buijsse et al., 2023).
