Week 1 Discussion Post
Organizations encounter two pertinent ethical dilemmas today: ethical utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Public Relations (PR) behavior. However, organizations have made significant efforts to address such problems and mitigate abuses. Ethical PR practices are powerful in any organization considering that such unethical PR behavior as sharing false information, participating in deceptive practices, and public opinion manipulation can be detrimental to the organization’s image and trustworthiness. Organizations should incorporate transparent and ethical PR practices and behavior to mitigate such dilemmas (Hastings, 2022). Establishing strict ethical guidelines and codes of conduct for PR professionals is critical. Also, organizations must focus on authenticity, honesty, and accuracy when communicating with various stakeholders and the general public. Organizations should focus on verified information since that is the ethical use of communication channels to mitigate the spread of false information, as witnessed in the 2010 Chile earthquake (Lovari & Bowen, 2019). Organizations should allocate more funds and focus on educational programs and training for the workers to help them comprehend and maintain PR ethical standards.
The development and implementation of AI present severe ethical challenges to organizations. Such AI technologies as machine-learning algorithms pose significant ethical risks if utilized irresponsibly without appropriate governance. Organizations should focus on AI technology ethics and control to better address the dilemma (Korolov, 2022). Substantially, organizations ought to develop clear guidelines and policies to ensure the ethical utilization of AI and enhance the design and deployment of machine learning algorithms such that they promote transparency, reduce bias, and respect privacy. Moreover, systematic AI systems evaluations and audits are fundamental in pointing out and reducing possible ethical threats. Organizations should involve stakeholders like ethicists in making significant decisions concerning AI to ensure ethical concerns are effectively addressed. Essentially, the black-boxing of AI raises pertinent ethical implications since the decision-making process in such situations needs organizations to depend on such approaches as envelopment. Therefore, dealing with interpretability, transparency, opacity, and explainability is fundamental in addressing various AI ethical dilemmas (Berente et al., 2021).
