Effective leadership in Long-Term Care (LTC) facilitates employee job satisfaction, improved outcomes, responsive and quality care, and decreased turnover (Bourgeault et al., 2022). LTC leaders should ensure that the working environment is conducive so that workers can undertake their duties without excuses. Leadership in LTC is crucial since it motivates and encourages employees to participate in their assigned tasks fully to achieve the set organizational goals and objectives. As such, a good LTC leader is always ready to listen to workers and address potential problems that threaten their productivity. The paper focuses on the essential characteristics of leadership in LTC and its rationale.

A good LTC leader should give clear directions to employees by effectively communicating the organizational expectations and goals regularly. In that light, the leader should support and empower workers to avoid such problems so that they can be productive. The third characteristic of a good LTC leader is a problem-solver and critical decision-maker. The leader should interact with employees to know the challenges they are facing and provide effective solutions. Additionally, the person should think strategically pertaining to how the organization will achieve the set goals. Due to the presence and application of technology in LTC, a good leader should know how to gather, analyze, and interpret reliable and credible data. That way, the person can make proper strategic decisions that do not mislead the organization.
