From the class lectures, two images of managing change stand out due to their significance for leaders in managing and controlling their organizations. They include controlling and shaping. The controlling image of change adopts a vertical top-to-bottom model. In this approach, the people at the top of the management are involved in initiating change within an organization (Leeman, 2002). Ideally, there is a change manager at lower levels of the organization who is often involved with implementing the strategies connected with the change (Palmer et al., 2016). The focus of the change managers is to ensure that every strategy is adequately implemented, and a positive outcome is achieved.
Additionally, the shaping image of change is more participatory than the controlling image. With this model, the change manager must directly engage other stakeholders at different management stages to accomplish specific goals (Leeman, 2002). Instead of relying on the vertical communication and organizational model, the change manager collaborates directly with employees and teams to ensure the change implemented is effective and results in positive outcomes (Palmer et al., 2016). This model emphasizes inclusivity and engagement of all employees and other stakeholders that may be interested.
