The Department of Defense (DoD) aids Homeland Security enterprises with its skills in intelligence. First, DoD provides timely and accurate intelligence that improves situational awareness and informs decision-making. When Homeland Security compares and contrasts intelligence information from its databases and those provided by the DoD, it will reach a more inclusive conclusion on the state of national security. Second, the DoD supports Homeland Security with its technical help and enterprise. Crises like cybersecurity scandals, emergency response, and infrastructure protection require collaboration between different law enforcement agencies (Iftikhar, 2024). Another role of the DoD in Homeland Security is the prevention of national security risks to the homeland. As the DoD protects the United States borders from illegal intrusion, it indirectly shields the homeland and facilitates the roles of Homeland Security (Suchman, 2022). The DoD also assists local law enforcement authorities in locating terrorists, conducting inquiries, and defending key infrastructures against cybercrime. Part II Potential legal issues are associated with the DoD's engagement in Homeland Security. The Posse Comitatus Act prevents service members from being involved in civilian law enforcement unless authorized by law (Brennan Centre for Justice, 2021). This law has been active for more than 145 years and sees military participation as an abuse of personal liberty and democratic rights.
