Historical Perspective on Airline Deregulation
Deregulation was a boom for the United States airline industry and later in Europe. There are several reasons why I hold this position. First, deregulation enabled the price to be determined by market forces (Peterson, 2018). The competition that resulted after deregulation made airline businesses think of creative ways of attracting customers (Cetin & Eryigit, 2018). This way, the measure was beneficial to both businesses and customers. Secondly, deregulation enabled more airline businesses to be established. With less government involvement, investors found it favorable to invest in the airline industry (Ali & See, 2021). Therefore, the move encouraged more investments. Thirdly, with deregulation, airlines could have more routes. Thus, although deregulation came with a fair share of disadvantages, it laid the ground upon which the airline industries would boom.
The future of global air transportation seems very bright. In the near future, electric planes will be commonplace (Ison & Budd, 2020).
