Covid-19 And the Future of Training and Development
The management team plays an important role in facilitating the achievement of organizational goals. Such is done through the use of various business models whose aim is to organize activities within the organization. Following the COVID 19 pandemic, a lot has changed in the way people do business and how organizations are run (Bailey & Breslin, 2020). Organizations will be required to adapt to the new normal by implementing new business models, modifying existing models, or sticking to the existing model. The Instructional Systems Design Model has proven to be effective in facilitating the growth of organizations. Therefore, amid the COVID 19 pandemic, organizations will adapt to this model and make a few changes to make it more effective.
The Instructional Systems Design Model will be applicable during the COVID 19 pandemic because it presents important techniques that organizations use to grow. The model involves a need analysis section. For instance, if an organization has certain goals to meet, the management team will have to analyze what is required for the needs to be met (Saks & Haccoun, 2010). Organizations' needs have changed a lot following the pandemic, and therefore, the process is unavoidable (Bailey & Breslin, 2020). Through task, personal, and organizational analysis, organizations will identify the things that need to be changed. Task analysis is important because some tasks might require teamwork. For example, a software implementation project would require the involved parties to work from a common location. Social distancing does not accommodate teamwork, and hence, a manager will require to develop new strategies for doing such tasks. A lot of changes will be made based on the results of the need analysis section of the Instructional Systems Design Model.
The training design and delivery is another area of the model that will require a lot of changes. The training objectives and learning outcomes will remain unchanged. A training program's objectives are to enable employees to understand how to carry out certain tasks within the organization (Saks & Haccoun, 2010). For example, teaching employees how to execute a new task would enhance their performance in meeting the goals of that project. Regardless of whether people are working from home or not, such objectives remain important to the organization. Managers use such objectives to measure employee productivity (Saks & Haccoun, 2010). As well, the learning outcomes aim to ensure that employees have been equipped with the necessary knowledge to meet organizational needs. The training content and methods will have to be adjusted to suit the new normal. If people are working virtually, the training methods will also be virtual. For instance, organizations can use Zoom meetings to train employees on how to do certain tasks. The trainers can use PowerPoint presentation to pass across the intended information (Bailey & Breslin, 2020). Before the pandemic, companies would use any training method to effectively deliver the intended content. During a training held in a physical location, the training content will differ from that used in virtual meetings. Therefore, it is the role of organizations to come up with training content that will suit the training method being used (Saks & Haccoun, 2010). Alternatively, the organization can hold several training sessions in the office but include a few employees at a time. The method is effective for technical tasks such as those involved in a software implementation projects. This could be an effective training method but might be costly. However, the Instructional Syst...
