Disaster Recovery CPMT Hierarchy and Sub-Teams The contingency planning management team (CPMT) is responsible for overseeing the disaster recovery efforts in the organization. As such, the team is required to avail appropriate resources and staff to handle and implement the disaster recovery (DR) plan during a crisis. As such, the CPMT chairperson provides overall leadership while the DR team leader becomes responsible for the coordination and execution of the DR plan. The DR team will consist of 3 sub-teams, each with its leader and responsible for specific aspects of the DR plan. Team members will be assigned specific roles based on their expertise and the needs of the DR team. DR Sub-teams a) IT Recovery Team With IT being a crucial aspect of the organization, this team will be responsible for restoring systems critical to operations. This includes backing up data, replacing damaged hardware, and reconnecting networks (Whitman & Mattord, 2021). The team will comprise three employees with expertise in the organization’s IT infrastructure. b) Facility Recovery Team This sub-team will be responsible for assessing the damage in the organization’s facilities after a disaster occurs. This will provide them with an opportunity to develop appropriate alternatives for relocation of operations where necessary and initiate appropriate repairs of the facilities (Whitman & Mattord, 2021). This team will be made up of four employees, each with a specific role based on their expertise. c) Communications Team This sub-team will be tasked with coordinating communication by establishing appropriate protocols during the disaster period. The team will ensure communication is accurate and timely by integrating both external and internal stakeholders and escalating pertinent issues as required (Moşteanu & Roxana, 2020). This team will comprise three employees responsible for maintaining communication during a disaster. Procedures, Policies, and Special Equipment Procedures and Policies To ensure the DR plan works effectively and achieves its objectives, the DR team will continuously use its procedures and policies as required. This will ensure that all members are aware of their responsibilities and protocols to be followed when disaster hits. These procedures and policies include:
- Disaster Recovery Exercises – these will be undertaken periodically to prepare the DR team to familiarize them with their roles and further test the plan's efficacy for future improvement.
- Security and Access Controls – the team will ensure offsite backups of data and critical organizational systems and further limit their access to ensure their security.
