The case study is about how Ken Bodine, a sales manager at Pace Technologies who has been able to outcompete his rivals through the use of the aggressive business intelligence approach. The manager has adopted the business intelligence tactic to spy what other companies are offering to strengthen its competitive advantage. According to the case study, Ken has hired highly skilled young sales employees who are responsible for the rapid growth witnessed in the company. He has recruited best-performing graduates from two of the top business schools around intending to further improve the growth of his company. To lure the top talents, Ken has offered competitive salary, which cannot be matched by most of other companies competing with Pace Technologies. In addition, the top graduates were attracted by Ken’s positivity towards making Pace Technologies one of the best-performing companies. His positivity is portrayed by his high energy levels, innovative and creative thinking as well as a confident attitude towards work.
According to the case study, Ken is determined to instill his characteristics of aggressiveness and hard work by encouraging competition among the company’s young salespersons. However, the use of business intelligence and competition between workers has resulted in some unethical behaviors in the company where some workers such as Cody are stealing other companies’ business secrets. Raleigh is one of the fiercest rivals to Pace Technologies from which Cody has stolen trade secrets when given an assignment together with his colleague Ali, to secure a potential major account with a firm that has just extended its business into that area. Cody believes that his manager, Ken Bodine, will like what he has done because the company will be in a greater position to acquire the account of a new company than its rival, Raleigh. However, Ali believes this is unethical behavior; she is at a crossroads whether to tell Ken about it or not. She fears that her boss likes to out compete his rivals through business intelligence, and what Cody has done could be viewed as an important tool by Ken.

Ken Bodine is a leader with absolute power and who is determined to improve the performance of the sales department of Pace Technologies. He is determined to elevate sales to the highest level possible. He has adequate skills and required knowledge to achieve this feat, and he is a representation of the company’s culture. He has managed to obtain some of the top talents around and instill into them his characteristics of aggressiveness and hard work. Besides, he is able to spy on the company’s competitor’s ideas to enable the company to compete favorably in the market. As far as sales are concerned, Ken surpasses his rivals, and he enjoys creating an air of mystery within the company. He encourages his staff to follow his footsteps of hard work and aggressiveness. He thinks that his team must not let any other company secure a major account, while Pace Technologies is still around.
