Many police forces utilize the services offered by auxiliary constables in Canada. There are various policing legislations and Acts such as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act providing for the requirements and duties of auxiliary constables (Cole, Smith & DeJong, 2013). The basic role of auxiliary constables in Canada according to the provincial policing regulations is to assist sworn, or regular, police constable in exercising their duties, and to provide help in community policing. Like any other regular police constables, auxiliary constables in Canada wear uniforms. However, they have the word "auxiliary" on the crest of the force on each of their arms. They are often unarmed, but possess firearm training. They carry handcuffs and baton while on duty (Dempsey & Forst, 2010). This paper seeks to discuss why I would like to become an Auxiliary Police Constable in my community in Ontario Canada. I possess good observation skills and pay special attention to detail. I also have passion for helping people and a great team dynamics. With my empathetic nature and open mindedness, I am certain I will be able to make a good auxiliary constable.
I want to volunteer. I want to become an auxiliary police constable in my community in Ontario Canada for many reasons. I want to assist in community policing in my community. There are numerous criminal and civil wrongs taking place in my community such as thefts and missing persons. I want to help the regular police with their normal duties. I want to become useful in my community and contribute to the success in making the community safe. Becoming an auxiliary police constable means I will be involved in search for missing persons, attending daily patrols, and providing crowd control at events (Dempsey & Forst, 2010). My community needs assistance in providing the security at grass root level. Across the country, auxiliary police constables offer valuable services to the community and assistance to the regular police officers. I want to provide uniformed aid to the local police department. I want to provide such services out of civic duty (Cole, Smith & DeJong, 2013). I think I can achieve these goals because I am a law abiding citizen that has lived in Ontario for the past 12 years.
