Rudyard Kipling’s poem, The White Man’s Burden, summarizes the West’s imperialist and expansion endeavor as being both a noble and challenging task that should not be taken lightly. It is a call for the White supremacists to embrace its position, values, and beliefs as the superior or civilized race in facilitating the spread of civilization to the conservative or rather uncivilized societies around the world. The narrator asks the audience to take pride in carrying the white man’s burden by sending its best men, young and old, to explore the unknown lands while holding captive the local inhabitants for the West’s civilization.
