Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness" is a typical representation of the experiences of people, especially during the pre-colonial and colonial period. Interwoven in these experiences is a grim depiction of how a continent can be deprived of its resources as a result of exploitative adversaries. The author himself criticizes the much-praised concept of imperialism as the source of the continent's problems. I find the book particularly intriguing and captivating at the same time, since it brings out the image of Africa through a different lens.
