Article 1 Summary
The article recognizes the potential of freedom of speech violation and how protecting such rights could undermine the authentic functioning of a democracy. The article brings to attention the Mueller Report, which documented the findings of possible Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election in the United States. The report findings indicated that Russia had interfered with the ballot in a “sweeping and systematic fashion,” thus violating American criminal law. This happened due to the failure of the First Amendment to create safeguards for the freedom of speech. The First Amendment creates loopholes in what is within the limits of free speech and misuse of such freedom. This ambiguity allows for fake news, information flooding, trolls
