The Use and Abuse of Drugs and the Subsequent Addiction to them
This discussion is based on Chapter 8 of our text - "Addictions." Your assignment is to submit a short essay that will
1) Address the difference between "use" and "abuse" of drugs (including legal and illegal ones) in our daily lives, and
2) Reflect on your personal encounter or observation of "a case of abuse" that resulted in harmful/sorrowful/regrettable consequences to the victim and or his/her family/friends/community, and what you learned from it.
You do not have to use real name of the "victim" in your essay (for privacy reasons). But do see this assignment as an invaluable educational experience for the whole class, the instructor included. Your contribution to the discussion should help us all to become wiser and more responsible citizens of the society.

Most of today’s youngsters are greatly affected by issues to do with drug abuse and subsequent addiction to them. It is a major social problem for most societies and ne that needs much more collaboration when it comes to its combat. Drugs are usually manufactured for various purposes. While there are those meant for medicinal purposes, there exist drugs whose sole purpose is to predispose the body to addiction. It should not however, be forgotten that even the medicinal drugs can also result in addiction. There is a very fine line between the use and abuse of drugs, and the subsequent addiction to them.
For medicinal drugs, taking them properly, as per the prescription, will go a long way in healing. When taken in large, unprescribed amounts or frequency, then it becomes drug abuse. Th...
