An overview and description
McDonald`s is a leading fast food retail restaurant dealing with not only hamburgers, milkshakes, French fries, but also breakfast.
McDonald`s restaurant drew my interest several years ago during my childhood and that explains my choice to write about the restaurant. For instance, I have been reading financial reports and other articles concerning the restaurant since the year 2001.
It was founded by brothers Dick and Mac McDonald in 1940 before expansion and modification by their business partner Ray Kroc in 1955. Its management is made of a Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, an executive VP, and a Human Resource Officer. Currently, the newly appointed CEO Don Thompson, who started his services as CEO on 7/1/2012, runs the company. The company`s headquarters is located in Oak Brook IL, with 33,000 locations and 420,000 employees globally.
The company`s incentives
The company offers many incentives and rewards to motivate its employees and therefore satisfy their customers. One of the motivations offered is employee promotions, whereby, the employees are rewarded with higher ranks on showing a good performance in their work. Employees can move up the ranks from the counter to get to a manager, with the current Human Resource Officer, Fred Turner, who started working on the counter in 1956, as an ideal example. Employees also can move up the ranks to become owners of the company. About 50% of the owners and 75% of the managers started off their work in the company on the counter.
McDonald`s gives rewards like company cars with which one is not limited to carrying out business-related activities but also personal activities. The company car program is organized such that the employee has a chance to select the car of their preference.
