The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People
Introduction
We associate an influential person with success, and we all want to achieve success. It is a long process of conscious decisions, deliberate actions, and reinforcements. According to Austrian psychologist and philosopher Viktor Frankl, the foundational habit to be an effective person is to become proactive (Covey, 1989).
Proactivity is a string of conscious decisions while accepting responsibility for them. The difference between proactive and reactive people lies in their responses. A reactive person will empower external factors like people and the environment to control them (Covey, 1989). A pro-active person is quite the opposite and is value-driven to the core.
Incorporating Proactive Habits in My Life
Being proactive, I can take responsibility for my actions and responses. I will be able to understand that I have the potential to make things happen (Planbox, 2018). I can empower myself and my moral values rather than letting external factors and circumstances control me.
The benefits of proactivity certainly make it an attractive habit to adopt. If I choose to adopt it, then proactivity will help prepare me for changes in the future. Proactivity will teach me how to stay alert about any changes in my environment and respond accurately. The changes will become opportunities for me in both my personal and professional life.
With a proactive habit, I can reduce any risks and increase beneficial prospects, unlike a reactive person, who will allow the change to choose their response. In addition to always being prepared, proactivity will help me become more flexible. I will be ready to respond correctly to any changes and different scenarios.
The level of stress in my life will significantly diminish by becoming a proactive person. Unlike a reactive employee, I will be prepared and work on time rather than letting it pile up. It will provide me with the time to review my work and improve its quality without the looming pressure of a deadline and work stress. My work will become more consistent and have fewer errors. So, proactivity will not only reduce the stress but also enhance my overall performance.
