Abstract
It is commonly said that East or West home is best. However, there are some people who run away from home since they probably feel that the condition at home is too much for them to bear. Nevertheless, they always end up coming back home. This essay seeks to establish why the aspect of home is so important, by looking at three different pieces of literature.
Meaning of Home
The concept of home is often comforting and welcoming. On the mention of the word home, many people get that feeling of acceptance, comfort and love. It brings a sense of belonging that cannot be found anywhere else on earth. It is not so much about the material gain or support that an individual gets from home that makes it so important. Rather, it is the general understanding that there is emotional satisfaction within the confines of home. This got Warren really worked up, and he was not ready to accept him back. However, on the prodding of his wife, he accepts to check on him, only to find him dead.
The reader, therefore, gets to understand that Silas came back home to die, as Mary tells Warren. It is however, unclear as to why he prefers the home of his employers rather than go to his blood brother, who was a bank director and therefore well off. On close analysis, his action brings out the meaning of home. He found comfort, acceptance and peace at the Warren`s. That is why, even after going away and leaving them at their hour of need, he comes back to them. This is what makes Mary say that home is a place where "one does not deserve" (Frost, n.d). Silas knew this, and even if he knew he had wrong...
