HIV/AIDS has ravaged many parts of sub-Saharan Africa and killed millions. When it was discovered in the early 1980s, several sub-Saharan countries, including Uganda and Botswana, had conspiracy theories about the virus with no scientific understanding. However, when the infection rates soared, their governments collaborated with foreign governments and organizations. They embarked on nationwide sensitization programs and tactics to educate on prevention strategies and live healthier lives once infected.
Both Uganda and Botswana have different cultures, hence the unique tactics deployed to fight the virus. Because of the virus's nature, some common strategies and methods worked for both countries and any other nation in the world. For instance, both nations settled on an aggressive media campaign in radio and television. Botswana had two television shows, Talk Back and Re Mmogo, with AIDS prevention themes....
