Superfund is an environmental program established to address identified abandoned hazardous waste sites. Superfund also refers to the fund established by the comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act of 1980 for the cleanup of lands contaminated by hazardous waste. Such land is identified by the Environmental Protection Agency and listed as a candidate for cleanup if it poses' risks to human health and/or the environment in general.
