Summary of "Farm Girl"
"Farm Girl" by Jessica Hemauer is a narrative of childhood memories and how these experiences have helped shape the writer to the person she is today. It is an easy read, and uses the simple vocabulary to relay her message. Despite the simplicity in her writing style, Hemauer managed to take the reader into an emotional rollercoaster - how she hated having to get up so early in the morning, how she felt left out in conversations, how excited she was to finally become involved in school. By choosing the right words and imagery to convey her idea, she has allowed the reader to become involved in her entire life, and then experience that moment of realization when she discovered that her success in life was because of the "hardships" she experiences working in the farm. Being the farm girl herself, Hemauer effectively utilized the ethos to build on her work and convey more meaning that her words expressed.
Hemauer showed in her brief personal essay the duality of her life - where at home, she labored like a farmhand, unlike "a typical ten year old child [who] does not have to wake up at five in the morning to do chores" ADDIN Mendeley Citation{c38f3d4b-6a61-4288-a822-48171e18be25} CSL_CITATION { "citationItems" : [ { "id" : "ITEM-1", "itemData" : { "author" : [ { "family" : "Hemauer", "given" : "Jessica" } ], "chapter-number" : "2", "container-title" : "Title of book", "id" : "ITEM-1", "page" : "83-87", "publisher" : "publisher", "publisher-place" : "city", "title" : "Farm girl", "type" : "chapter" }, "uris" : [ "/documents/?uuid=c38f3d4b-6a61-4288-a822-48171e18be25" ] } ], "mendeley" : { "manualFormatting" : "(Hemauer, n.d., p. 83)", "previouslyFormattedCitation" : "(Hemauer, n.d.)" }, "properties" : { "noteIn...
