The Role of Security in an Organization Name: Course title: Professor: Institution: Date Due: Introduction The security department in any organization is quite significant with regard to protecting or guarding the assets, properties, merchandize, equipments, employees, and reputation of that organization. In addition, this obligation also extends to non-employees such as customers, visitors, patrons, or invitees to the company premises or property. In essence, the department of security in an organization guards all the assets and people within that organization (Word Press, 2009). The protective role of an organization security department constitutes of a service. Among the main function of the security is ensuring that an organization is operating without or with limited cases of inventory, equipments, or document disappearance, burglary, rape, parking assault or mugging. The posting of the security department’s guardian role is the prevention of crime and losses. It does this by employing the philosophy of denying criminals the opportunity to succeed in their endeavors (Word Press, 2009). Responsibilities of an Organizational Security Director According to Feroz, (2010), the function of an organizational security director is a combination of management, consultancy, and advisory roles. The security director is mandated to ensuring the employee’s security, assets, documents, fraud. He or she is also supposed to prevent industrial sabotage, hacking, arson, robbery and terrorism. He or she is expected to plan, direct and oversee the implementation of various security systems with regard to protection of property, individuals, and homes that are under his or her responsibility. He or she is well mandated to analyzing data on internal plans and operations, installation of security apparatus and systems, such as cctvs, motion detectors, alarms, electric and perimeter fences. A security director has also a role in directing and planning individual, family and group security and also customer and visitors protection. He or she directs or conducts surveillance of premises and suspects in order to apprehend the security culprits in his or her organization.
