The scientific management theory is a theory formulated by Frederick Taylor and it aims at improving the efficiency of an organization. Its objective is to decrease waste, increase the methods and process of production and create a just distribution of products (Grimsley, 2011). Basing upon the scientific management theory, the routines in healthcare that appear inefficient include the following: first is the hiring, training and promotion of workers. At a certain healthcare organization – name withheld for confidentiality –, the scientific personnel system in not very efficient considering that employees are not necessarily employed, trained and given promotion basing on their abilities and technical competence. Prejudice and bias play a key role since some qualified workers are overlooked during hiring and promotion, and less qualified individuals are selected instead. Simply put, the motivation and abilities of workers are not properly matched to work in order to ensure maximum efficiency. According to Frederick Taylor, a scientific personnel system should be developed that will enable staffs to be employed, trained and given promotion basing upon their abilities and technical competence (Grimsley, 2011).
