Nawaz & Awan (2018) explained how Blanche’s, the protagonist, past affected her actions at present. The woman was previously married to a young man who committed suicide to discover his homosexuality. On top of this, she lost her riches secondary to their family’s financial circumstances. Hence, she was forced to be evicted and had no choice but to live with her sister and brother-in-law. Blanche has a burden from her past that she continuously carries, preventing her from functioning normally, and this leads to actions that are both normal and bizarre, such as thinking about marrying a millionaire to scale up her social status and continuously fighting with Stanley, even when she was living with them out of pity of her sister. The actions that she demonstrated are realistic and consistent with how a person would react when exposed to significant life distress. Analyzing Blanche’s actions, an individual can want to return to her previous life and do everything to achieve her objective—even if it drives her to insanity, to how the other characters interpret her actions.
