Reading Summary Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation Course Professor Date Reading Summary Summary This week, we explored two readings from Latinx communities written by Monica Torreiro-Casa and her associates. The first reading explored the experiences and challenges encountered by the Latinx communities, especially emphasizing Latina breast cancer survivors and the mental health needs of Latinx people. The authors examined the narratives of Latina breast cancer survivors from Chicana and Latina feminist insights. Based on the author's exploration, breast cancer is the leading cause of death among Latinas in the U.S. (Torreiro-Casal et al., 2023). Reports showed varying experiences of Latino immigrants, including the marginalization and the systemic and linguistic barriers they face in the U.S. Moreover, a larger population of Latina immigrants experience multiple healthcare barriers that increase other intersectionality, which adds more layers of structural challenges and vulnerabilities.
