Growth Mindset and Fixed Mindset
In any learning environment there are different types of earners who view learning differently. There are those with fixed mindsets who often believe that their intellectual abilities are fixed and people have different thinking capabilities. This category of learners believes that success can be achieved without effort. They tend to appear intelligent because they were born with a fixed level of intelligence that cannot be modified. The second category of learners is made up of those with a growth mindset who believe in improvements and development of abilities over time. They acknowledge the fact that people are different but they can always change (Dweck, 2008). They believe they can become smarter and achieve success through hard work, learning, and putting an extra effort into what they do. Their intelligence and abilities can be developed and improved through continuous learning and effort.
