The Pros and Cons of Taking Continuing Education in The Area of Interior Design
Introduction
A substantial number of learners do not think of their career goals until they have enrolled in a course in continuing education. They consider this type of education to be the breakthrough for meeting their dreams. Therefore, people invest a lot in pursuing a degree in different fields of study. Among the areas that have attracted a large number of learners in the field of interior design. Pursuing continuing education in this field can have its advantages and disadvantages as discussed below.
Pros Of Taking Continuing Education
Continuing Education Increases Job Opportunities
One of the main reasons for taking continuing education is that it will increase the job opportunities that an individual can apply for. All the interior design jobs in the job market will require an individual to have a certain level of education. For instance, some jobs will require an individual to have graduated from high school, while others will require a person to have a bachelor's degree or master's degree. Therefore, continuing education would increase the range of jobs that an individual can apply for. The number of job opportunities available in the market will depend on an individual's level of education (de Oliveira, Penedo & Pereira, 2018). Therefore, a person needs to further their education to have better chances of getting employment. The job market is highly competitive, and hence, more educational qualifications would be beneficial.
Continuing Education Would Increase an Individual’s Income.
The more educational qualifications that an individual has, the higher their chances of securing a well-paying job. Most employers will offer the best job positions to the most qualified candidate. Given that the qualifications are measured in terms of education, individuals with higher education levels would secure such job positions. The salary for such job positions tends to be higher than those that require fewer educational qualifications. Once an individual has acquired more education, they can be promoted to a management or leadership role. If an individual rank changes in the workplace, their salary would also change. Given that companies in the interior design industry seek to employ the most qualified individual for management positions, an individual ought to further their education to be considered during promotions. If an organization does not have anyone qualified for the well-paying job positions, they will hire an outsider for the position instead of the people that have been working in the organization (Bilyalova, Salimova & Zelenina, 2019). Therefore, continuing education would broaden an individual opportunity of getting a well-paying job in the interior design industry.
Continuing Education Enhances Networking.
Another advantage of continuing education is that it enhances networking. The interior design industry requires a lot of networking to ensure that an individual meets their career goals. Therefore, when individuals enroll in a course in continuing education, they are likely to meet new people that would introduce them to new career opportunities. Online courses in interior design offer various forums where a person can join and network with other people to work on certain projects. The more projects that a person works on in the industry, the higher their chances of getting well-paying opportunities from parties interested in the projects.
Continuing Education Makes People More Innovative.
The interior design industry requires a lot of innovation. The details that people learn in the classroom environment are made to enhance their critical thinking skills. Therefore, the more education an individual gets in this field, the higher their chances of being innovative. An innovative person is more likely to succeed in an interior design career than an individual who has not pursued continuing education (Kavanagh, Luxton-Reilly, Wuensche & Plimmer, 2017). Learning new concepts introduce an individual to new ways of thinking. Continuing education in interior design offers people an opportunity to learn new concepts pertaining to the industry. These concepts are the main factors that contribute to the development of new ideas in interior design.
Cons Of Taking Continuing Education
Continuing Education in Interior Design Is Costly.
Continuing education courses in interior design can cost a lot of money depending on the individual's school. Unfortunately, colleges and universities tend to be one of the costliest types of institutions out there. Their prices may vary from state to state as well as regionally, and this means an individual ought to shop around to get their most affordable option. Given that people come from different backgrounds, it is not guaranteed that every learner can afford continuing education (de Oliveira, Penedo & Pereira, 2018). If a stu...
