Discuss how an individual can use effective communication techniques to overcome workplace challenges, encourage collaboration across groups, and promote effective problem-solving. Identify a specific instance from your own professional experience in which the values of the organization and the values of the individual nurses did or did not align. Describe the impact this had on nurse engagement and patient outcomes. There is a direct link between the culture within any organization and their values. These two are the driving forces behind the achievement of corporate goals, whether long-term or in the short-term. The culture is simply the actions that the people within a given organization take and the meaning which these staffs attach to their actions at their work place (Carpenito, 2009). All the new members are taught the collective behavior of the staff in the organization together with the common assumptions that drive the staff. The organizations values are part of these cultures that are formed at the work place for all the staff to follow. As such, it is not possible to separate the cultures of the organizations and the values that the organizations strives to keep alive, since they are part of the same cloth. The values that any medical institution holds, are supposed to help the nurse to identify what is important to say the hospital and what is not, with reference to the goals that have been set in place. For the staff such as the nurses in a hospital want to perform at their very best within the organizations setting to realize their own goals and those of the organization, they have to align their goals and values to those of the organization. Failure to align the nurses’ values with those of the organization will only lead to conflict of interest and eventually dissatisfaction of the organization, the nurse and the patients. The values alignment helps put into perspective what is important for all the parties involved, while avoiding what will bring conflict (Carpenito, 2009). Where the nurses set their own values, with reference to those of the organization in a bid to achieve the organizations goals and theirs, the patients also benefit from professional attention and health care. Otherwise, the nurse would be trying one aspect of the patients care while the organization has a different idea of what it expects the nurse to do in order to satisfy the needs of the patients.

Within any of the organization of whichever magnitude, the level of achieving the goals, which have been put in place in the long-term and in the short-term are all reliant on the communication backbone, within the organization. All the strategies that the organizations may hatch and require to be implemented require to be communicated to the right personnel, within the right time and means, to have maximum effect. These communication skills are above and beyond the peer to peer communications, to within the levels of management and further through the levels of management. Where the organization develops their communication skills, they definitely reap the benefits of focusing on the prime goals (Emergency Management Institute (U.S.), 2002).
For an individual who has developed these skills it is always likely that they have mastered the art of being part of the society. This is a level of maturity that most people have not achieved and requires practice and resilience. Good communications skills means that the individual is more knowledgeable as that are able to interact with people around them much easily and therefore have any insatiable accumulation of knowledge (McConnell, 1993). With this amount of knowledge it means that they are going a much easier time handling challenges than those that have poor communication skills. Part of communication skills requires the individual to listen to the other parties. As they listen, they may apply techniques such body language, where there maintain their contact, to show attentiveness.
