According to the article there three main categories of music that can be traced throughout the history of American music. However, the article also mentions that there is a gap in the information available on the origin of American music. At the same time the article goes on to state primitive nature of the instruments. In light of the music, the main categories are the north, central and south American musical categories. The north American music is considered aggressive and vital, while that from the central America is considered to be sentimentally gay and from the south, the music is considered to be nostalgic. They all follow the Columbian roots they emerged from. The music instruments in this case include the various tone flutes. Much of the traditional dynamics of the music is hinged onto a number of instruments such as six tone scale heard in the millenary preclassic flute, the seven-tone scale in the European diatonic scale from the Maya flute, the whole tone scale of the Tarascan flutes along with the triple and quadruple flutes which are from the Gulf of Mexico; these play three to four parts of chords.
