The Module 3 Case study is an Argumentative essay in which the writer takes a stance on technology and children and provides three or more supporting points as support.

After reflecting on “The Impact of Technology on the Developing Child” and “Is the internet hurting children?" write a well-organized and well-supported essay on technology and children.

A well-organized essay has a beginning, middle, and an end. The beginning, or introduction, should include an opening sentence to grab your reader’s attention. Follow the opening sentence with a brief background on the topic or situation. In this case, it would be brief summary on technology and children today. The last sentence of the introduction is the thesis statement. The thesis states the main point of the essay, which in this case, would be a statement affirming the impact of technology on children today.

A well-supported essay includes supporting points, details, and examples. For this essay, you must decide the best way to organize the body of the paper. Will you have one or two paragraphs for each supporting point? Will you divide the body of your paper into three or more paragraphs, one for each point? In any case, each body paragraph must support (explain) your reasoning (rationale) using specific details. Each body paragraph must have a topic sentence that states the main point of the paragraph, which in this case would be each supporting point.

This essay must include no less than EIGHT citations from the assigned background material for module 3 AS WELL AS credible and reliable sources selected by the student.

Citations are to be a combination of direct quotations and paraphrased quotations with or without the author's name. No others sources are to be used for this assignment.

The conclusion typically summarizes the main points of the essay and/or closes with a lasting impression that connects the reader to their world. In this case, where do we go from here?

Introduction
Recent technological progress has brought internet connection closer to children than before. As evidence, Clinton and Steyer (2012) argues that "consumer Reports reported last year that more than 7.5 million American kids under the age of 13 have joined Facebook, which technically requires users to be 13 years old to open an account". Further, Shamir and Korat (2023) reveal that 60 percent of American children aged 8 to 17 can access the internet via home computers. Clearly, the rapidly increasing number of children who access the internet and other technological gadgets has made scholars and practitioners from different fields to examine its effects. For instance, proponents of technology for children argue that it benefits children immensely. On the contrary, opponents of the same discussion argue that the technology has detrimental effects on children. This paper argues that even though technology could harm children, appropriate measures could be used to ensure that children enjoy the benefits of technology.
The Effect of the Technology on Child Development
Apparently, children spend a lot of time on technology, which in turn limits their capacity to develop their creativity and imagination. It is also crucial to highlight that the time spent by children on the internet also limits their physical development. As evidence, Rowan (2013) argues that the less playful children have developed sedentary bodies that are bombarded with frenzied sensory stimulation. This results in delayed development, which in turn affects the children’s foundation for achieving literacy. As a result, children are forced to join schools while still struggling with attention and self-regulation skills that are rudimental for learning. Consequently, teachers are left with responsibilities of managing student’s behaviour in the classrooms, yet such behaviour could be easily avoided. In short, the time spent by children on technology limits their ability for achieving literacy skills, which forces their teachers manage student’s behaviour.
As aforementioned, the time spent by children on technology also limits their ability to develop physically. This owes to the reality that Rowan (2013) argues that human connection, movement, touch, and exposure to nature are critical factors for healthy child development. It is because the factors promote self-regulation, bilateral coordination, posture development and optimal arousal states. Critical to the discussion is the fact that Rowan (2013) further argues that young children require between two and three hours of daily active play for them to develop appropriately. It is because active play promotes hugging, and touching, which is important for the development of planned movement patterns. Additionally, touch also lowers anxiety, adrenalin, and activates the parasympathetic system. However, children spend most of their time with technology at the expense of playing, which hampers their physical development. This always results in diseases such as autism, obesity, and diabetes, which are present in children today.
Internet Addiction
The amount of time spent by children on the internet does not only result in poor development among children, but also results in internet addiction. This owes to the reality that Kuss et al., (n.d) argues that the American Psychiatric Association intends to add internet use disorder on their list of diseases. Critical to the discussion is the fact that children and adolescents are at a high risk of developing the disorder because they lack the cognitive ability to resist the urge of accessing the internet.
