It had primarily focused on a child’s views of the Islamic Revolution, an era when little and teenage girls were forced to wear the veil. We know that in those days, there was no concept of equality; instead, schools and colleges were segregated by religion and gender, and the secular education was entirely abolished. That helped Marji learn new things and discover the bitter truths of life in a delicate age. I feel that she is one of those girls who got a chance to learn about socialism and revolution while being oppressed by the Shah on a daily basis. She possessed patriarchy or anti-authoritarian attitude and was inspired by the lessons of a book titled Dialectic Materialism. Still, the girl was not allowed to attend protests because of her age. All this made her slightly unhappy. She used to spend hours at school doing nothing significant but observing what’s going here and there. Outside of their institutions, girls get no chance to uncover their backgrounds and origin, and most of the history books explore stories of outside worlds. For example, Wicked is about the Wicked Witch of the West; similarly, Persepolis tells it isn’t so easy to be raised in Iran. It is one of those countries where girls and adult women are forced to wear the veil. We live in a world where men and women are considered equal. Still, Iran and several other countries impose various fines on women. Meanwhile, we cannot call Iran an evil state – the people here are religion-oriented and narrow-minded.
