Refugee And Homelessness: Survival Tactic
Please complete your second writing process in response to Art Spiegelman's The Complete Maus. A successful essay must express your analysis of the text. Keep descriptive writing to an absolute minimum. Little or no description is needed since your audience is familiar with the text. Do NOT summarize or describe the book.
Your goal is to delve more deeply into your own mind and reflect on an important theme of your choice. I look forward to what you come up with, and how you might grow in your efforts to complete a writing process and finally produce a formal essay.
Your final draft should demonstrate your intimate understanding of the text and some thoughtful, insightful expression of your ideas about it. The focus of your entire essay should be on your insight, interpretation, and analysis.
As your audience, I should be able to understand your reasoning and appreciate how you present your ideas, the unfolding of your thinking about the assigned reading.
LENGTH AND QUALITY EXPECTATIONS:
Your final draft should be 1000-1200 words long. Document design should match that of the sample essays on the course site.
Your goals for this writing process are to:
Complete a writing process: brainstorm, outline, draft, revise, final draft.
Develop an analytical thesis that expresses your insight, the analytical focus of your essay, and does not point out the obvious.
Use supporting ideas to develop your thesis. A successful essay consists of a constellation of closely related ideas. Occasional, BRIEF examples may be helpful. In general though, the best support you can offer is going to be explanation of your own ideas.
Structure your essay using an organizational pattern appropriate to your purpose and audience. Organize your essay as a logical sequence of closely related ideas.
Demonstrate awareness of the relationship between Author (namely, you), Text, and Audience. Use a tone and a vocabulary appropriate to your Text and Audience.
Practice effective college-level writing. Show effective control of mechanics: paragraphing, punctuation, and spelling.
