Interview with a Nurse Leader: Insights into Leadership and Personal Reflection

In this assignment I had the opportunity to interview a Nurse Manager Ms. Angela M. in a local mid-sized hospital. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree in Nursing Leadership and Administration. She is also a certified Nurse Executive-Board Certified (NE-BC) who, according to her, is key to her credibility and success as a leader. Angela is a leader of a 32-bed medical-surgical unit that has over 18 years of nursing experience and eight years of experience in the current position. Her daily tasks include staff scheduling, conflict solving, budgeting, performance appraisals, and mentoring charge nurses. Angela highlighted that her career transformation to leadership was not by chance but rather backed by her interest and desire to solve problems at the scale of the system and develop teams.
