Some general themes in this topic are interactivity, online engagement, and the people, specifically online users, perceive news value. The reading delves into how online news provides different impacts due to technological advancements and how it has changed how traditional news was spread among the masses. One major theme in the reading deals with interactivity. It states that interactivity is a “game-changer” when it comes to news because people can publicly share their opinion about the news in a readily available manner. On page 6, the research subdivides news into two categories which are soft news and hard news. Soft news does not necessarily imply a social, political, or societal matter. It deals more with social trends and pop culture, while hard news pertains to major events that imply the stability of society.
