Introduction
In various health systems that exist in the different countries, integrated care is one of the common ways of ensuring that there is a proper patient experience. In the last decade, different models have been adopted in the integrated care, and they are also shared across the various healthcare facilities. The case study that has been selected to study the organization of an integrated healthcare delivery system is that of Kaiser Permanente CITATION Pau11 \l 1033 (Paul, Charles, & Prusak, 2011).
Kaiser Foundation History
Kaiser Permanente is made up of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Permanente Medical groups located in eight different regions and also Kaiser Foundation Hospital. It is one of the largest integrated healthcare delivery system in the United States CITATION Cal14 \l 1033 (Calpers, 2014). The integrated healthcare system has existed for over a period of 70 years since it began in the year 1933 as a prepaid program that was providing healthcare services to workers in Southern California. It serves an average of 8.6 million members who are found in different eight regions; Northern and Southern California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, the Mid-Atlantic States, Ohio, and Northwest.
The evolution of the organizational structure of the facility in the competitive marketplace has been achieved through partnerships among the mangers and also the physicians. As a means of achieving excellence I the healthcare sector, KP has oriented various tools that are used in the analysis of population data which helps to identify the needs of the patients and intervene. KP also promotes collaboration between the patients and professionals so that there is an improvement in their healthcare services.
STRATEGIC PLAN OF KAISER PERMANENTE
1 Organizational Structure
As one of the methods that have been used by KP to ensure that there is the smooth flow of management of the various activities, the facility is made up of three separate entities that are also independent in a way. The entities are Kaiser Foundation Health Plan (KFHP), Kaiser Foundation Hospitals (KFH) and Permanente Medical Groups that are located in each of the regions previously mentioned.
The entities have contributed greatly to the networking of the facility since they are located in the various regions, and they work with each other to ensure that there is efficient healthcare.
Kaiser Permanente can be referred to as a closed group –model care system since the members who belong to the integrated healthcare system obtain their care from the physicians who are employees of the facility CITATION Cal14 \l 1033 (Calpers, 2014). However, there are other incidences where the patient can be referred to healthcare services that are outside the system.
KFHP and KFH have their headquarters in Oakland in Californian, and one the things that they have in common is that they share the same board of directors. This is very significant since it helps the entities to avoid wastage of time in decision making ion the operations of the healthcare facility. A decision pertaining the management of the facility can be reached with the same board of directors, and there is no need to carry out consultations from another entity.
In collaboration with other regional subsidiaries, KFHP contracts the individual, group and also the public purchasers of the coverage so that they can be able to finance the healthcare services for members. It also organizes inpatient care services, extended care and also home health plan for the members owned in the contracted facilities.
On the other hand, the Permanente Medical Groups is made up of physicians who accept a fixed payment so that they can provide medical care for the Kaiser Health plan members in the Kaiser facilities.
