My interviewee works in the hotel lodging industry, in one of the affluent hotels, the Hilton where he serves as the front desk supervisor.

The hotel business is the most prominent hospitality industry in the world that provides lodging services comprising of full-service hotel and resort and stay suites.The Hilton hotel offers services to their customers that support both business and leisure needs. A majority of the guests are business travelers, college visitors, and guest professors. The Hilton hotel is located on our campus.
The typical day of my interviewee lasts for eight hours. As the supervisor, he starts his day by holding a meeting with the other front office staff to discuss problems or concerns that may have arisen before the shift commencing and come up with solutions. When the shift starts in the morning, he makes and confirms reservations for the afternoon or evening check-in, he checks out visitors and contacts maintenance or housekeeping when needed in preparation for new guests. In the afternoon shift, he helps guests check in by collecting payments and issuing keys while at night, he conducts accounting audits of the day’s operations and writes a report.
The front desk supervisor’s path to education and work experience in the hospitality industry began when he worked in the Sea and Food restaurant as a server and a host. While working there, he enrolled for a degree in hospitality in our college, with lodging as his elective classes. He is currently in his second half of his senior year. After working for a year in the Sea and Food restaurant, he chose to gain a different experience by applying for a part-time internship position in our college’s hotel. Here, he worked as a public area attendant in the department of housekeeping. His impeccable work ethics and hard work saw him get a promotion to housekeeping supervisor, front office agent and finally to front office supervisor a position he currently holds.
My interviewee likes his position because as the first impression all guests get about the experience in the hotel gives him full exposure to different fascinating and exciting things they can provide. Additionally, it offers him the first-hand practice of the hotel’s mission of “filling the earth with the light and warmth of hospitality.” While at it, he adopts new skills such as how to deal with emergencies and how to progress in a leadership position. On the other hand, the front desk position comprises of three shifts namely, am, pm and overnight shifts.
