The American prison system has undergone many changes over the years. Even today, corrections is an area of focus and one that is constantly undergoing changes. The Just Deserts Era is one of the most important periods in the history of American corrections. It is also the most recent of the American correctional eras. The Just Deserts era began from the 1995 and is in effect to date. The era came into effect following a rise in crime prior to and during the 1990s, and is characterized by the belief that irresponsible conduct is wrong and should be punished by incarceration from the society.
