One of the key purposes of adverts is to captivate the audience thus persuading them purchase a specific good or service. An advert many be, in many forms including posters, television adverts, print adverts, radio adverts, as well as, billboard adverts among other forms. A couple of elements including imagery influence the level of appeal for a particular advert. This paper will look at how marketing managers use imagery and the association they make with the imagery.
For example, the “Dune Pour Homme” advert uses imagery in appealing the audience. In other words, the imagery attracts the male customers to the fragrance. The advert features a youthful male model i.e. in his early twenties kneeling on a beautiful sand dune. Next to the male model, there is a glamorous image of the cologne, whose projection seems to be disproportionately large. The words “Essence of Freedom” accompany the male model photo (Dior, 2013).
Imagery in this advert is effective in attracting the target market. For example, the man’s image is effective in providing a youthful aspect of glamour, which not only serves the product, but also the text in the advertisement. The sand dune’s image, on the other hand, has a physical reiteration as far as the product name is concerned. The image of a lonely male model conveys a notion of freedom. Despite being at a lonesome location, the male model seems relaxed. The normal life does not restrict him providing the sense of liberation. His loose, as well as, unorthodox clothing conveys the same. The quality of the photo contributes to a utopian liberation image.
