The project entailed health and nutrition education, generally focusing on school-going children, teens, and the youth. It aimed at enforcing health knowledge, especially on food choices and good lifestyle habits to ensure the youths took seriously the aspect of better nutrition and health. The project covered approximately two hundred children who were chosen through a simple random sampling technique from forty junior schools in northern California. The children were taken through a three-month period of calculated health education sessions where the facts were taught and knowledge, attitude, and practice assessed. Monitoring and evaluation were then done to assess understanding and adherence to common nutrition knowledge.
The project took place in between the months of October, November, and December 2021. Classes were being held in the evenings from four o'clock to six o'clock to capture the students after their classes. The sessions were being held at different schools in the hall rooms. During the weekends, the participants used to hold camps in the town areas to target not only other teens and youths but also the general public. The sessions were being done by health experts and officials from government hospitals throughout California. The participants were being placed into groups where collaborative learning was done. It was initially designed to equip young learners with the ability to be pioneers over their health and general wellbeing.
I chose this project out of my longing to assist students to establish healthy eating habits at an early age. While designing the project, I had three goals in mind.
