Introduction
More than ever before governments in different parts of the world have sought to strengthen their justice systems. This is in tandem with cases of increased crime the world over. Two of the main global crime issues that appear to affect the world today on a large-scale basis are cyber crimes and terrorism. These are issues that each system of criminal justice, even those with most sophisticated and advanced systems are still grappling to handle. The very nature of these crimes makes it impossible to determine who the next target will be (Tokgoz, 2012). This has made it necessary for virtually all criminal justice systems the world over to ensure that they are properly equipped in order to deal with these issues. Unlike other forms of crime that are almost predictable, these two forms of crime keep changing face. It is because of this nature that it becomes difficult to predict and hence becomes increasingly difficult to prevent. Majority of governments all over the world have invested heavily in their criminal justice systems to ensure that they can contain these forms of crime. This discussion looks at some of the ways in which worldwide criminal justice systems are seeking to tackle these crime issues.
Prevalence
One contributing factor as to why terrorism and cyber crime are flaunted as being among the main crime issues in the world today is due to their close relations. Terrorism has become common in virtually every part of the world in the last couple of years (Siegel, 2009). Even countries that are considered to have elaborate security systems have at one time found themselves trapped. Terrorists have a high dependence on technology in order to execute their plans successfully.
Initially, it was assumed that terrorism only affected Western countries. This can be associated with frosty relationships between the East and the East. Groups that were supposed to champion for the rights of the oppressed were formed. With the passage of time, these groups would turn out to be terrorism groups that would wreck havoc in the entire world.
One of the measures that have been put in place to contain the menace of terrorism, and cyber crimes is the use of high protection security systems. Initially, most criminal justice systems were not integrated with technology. As a result, terrorism groups were always a step ahead; they would communicate without being monitored. Upon embracing technology, most of the criminal justice systems were not keen to ensure that their information remains protected. As a result, the criminals would easily gain access to the information available on the criminal justice systems’ domain. They would use such information to their advantage and strike when those in charge least expected (Siegel, 2009). This is one of the areas that most criminal justice systems around the world have been worked around. As a way of dealing with this issue, most systems of criminal justice have enhanced their security. This is to ensure that information in their possession is not readily available to unauthorized persons. Although it does not mean that such information cannot be hacked int...
