Food and culture are intertwined and reflective of the preferences that different people relative to what they consider to be healthy ad tasty meals. As such, food serves as one of the novel ways that one can understand or even explain some of the paradoxes of multiculturalism and even ethnicity. It is for this reason that there has been for quite some time now, developments in the food media. This is with reference to the proliferation of the cookbooks, magazines, television programs, travel literature and blogs. One of the most important aspects about food and culture, is the restaurant makeover. This is with reference to restaurants that are struggling and are redesigned with a makeover approach to reflect the cultural background along with some of the ethnic appeal (Brayton, & Millington, 2017). Restaurants have the option of hiring experts in the dining field who then bring in some element of spicing up the restaurant from the decor, welfare of the staff is reevaluated and most importantly on the menu. There is some element of bias on the cultural diversity that most of the makeovers bring to the industry, specifically leaning towards non-white cultures such as Mexican, Chinese, Ethiopian, Thai among others.
It is this shift from the white culture in the restaurant business that is crucial to this debate. Ideally, with most of the restaurant makeovers taking on neoliberal approach, there is a hint of establishing the new-found trends with reference to appreciation of multiculturalism. There is a political agenda that can be established from the changing trends especially when considering the elements of immigration and diversity in the country (Brayton, & Millington, 2017).
