Swift mentions that the problem of begging mothers and their children in the city of Dublin was burdening the society and the Commonwealth (Swift, 2013). As such, he proposes that the Irish can consider the proposition of selling children as this would reduce poverty and overpopulation at the same time. Swift identifies the problem resulting from poverty including lack of food hat forces women to beg on the streets. The proposal to sell children is shocking but it is an attempt to highlight the problems of dehumanizing poverty and acting without passion while dealing with socio-economic issues.
