The journal will be submitted, online, at the end of the semester. For the first seven weeks of the semester, students collect online articles either about fake news, articles that are fake news, or articles or news items that someone is claiming is fake news. Students must provide working links to the articles; sum up the article in 280 characters (like a tweet), and provide an informed view (informed by the course material, especially as the weeks go on) of the piece (200 words maximum). For the second seven weeks of the semester, students collect online articles pertaining to debates about sex and gender. Working links to the articles are required. A summary of each article (280 characters) is required. And, and informed view of the article is required (250 maximum).

The false site has so unpretentiously shaped itself after ABC News that a quick look can assure the most discriminating readers. Informed View It has been perceived that the fake news as a hoax story appeared on the 15th of March 2018, as a report that ex-Baywatch star Pamela Anderson passed away. However, this was not considered as a genuine updated story because it was not published officially on the authorized News websites. This fake story was updated on ABCNews-us.com, a copy that was prominently selected to fool and insist readers to believe and follow this particular news website. The aim of the news website is to make people believe that they are visiting a genuine news website which comprises of relevant and exact news updates. It is also informed that the fake website has replicated a graphic which resembles the real logo of ABC News in order to gain some credibility to their unsure article. The informed view demonstrates that the actress's social media profiles have been active from the date this news was published, thus, she has not yet reacted or stated on this particular death hoax about her. It can be stated that there is no truth in this story. The original news goes by the url-abcnews.com while the fake website claims the link as abcnews-us.com. This is considered as a significant difference between original and fake website. Article 2 In the article “California Judge: Coffee Needs Cancer Warnings” superior court judge Elihu Berle states that the law in California needs coffee making companies mention an ominous cancer cautionary label because there is a chemical produced during the process of roasting. Informed View The article clearly mentioned the views of the judge based on the side effects of the procedure of roasting coffee. According to the judge, coffee companies such as Starbucks failed to show that the risk from the chemical was irrelevant. Additionally, the article mentions that The Council for education and Research toxics sued an international coffee brand Starbucks and other similar companies. However, this can simply be considered as a fake news because these companies are working internationally under the restricted laws related to health. As well as, it shows that the registered coffee companies failed to prove that there was no significant risk of drinking coffee. To affect the reputation of the companies the fake news also mentioned that the lawyers and officials of Starbucks did not respond immediately to the serious concern raised by them. While writing numerous health issues and serious illness as cancer the article wanted to divert the attention of people. Article 3 The article “Is ‘Super’ Antenna Octa Air a Legitimate Replacement for Cable” has significantly highlighted the so-called latest technology where a distrustful commercial used modified photographs and overstated claims in order to promote a new “super” antenna called Octa Air. Informed View The article claims that a new super antenna named as Octa Air is an authentic replacement for cable used to watch television that can provide people with numerous of free HDTV channels. The false about the news is the images that accompany it have been doctored. However, the truth is that Octa Air is considerably an antenna for television which provides access to local OTA channels. As observed, the article employs various false practices in terms of making the Octa Air give the impression as if it was a revolutionary latest and innovative product. For instance, a number of promotional images were digitally altered and recycled from same misleading ads for diverse products. The fake article boasted about Octa Air that how this latest product was the most technologically advanced antenna in the market along with its creative design which allows the product to pick up the signals from the air which others cannot. This article mentioned a very deceptive statement based on the commitment made on the idea that every company offering cable services has to provide an over-the-air signal for their channels. Article 4 An article titled as “Was a Scuba Diver Hospitalized after Getting His Penis Stuck in a Giant Clam?” mentions that a man got his penis stuck in a giant clam but it was all rumors by a satirical website. These rumors related to a sexually exciting scuba diver brought down by a shellfish allergy. Informed View Lately, in March, a fake news article constructed on a scuba diver who suffered a serious allergic reaction was written to attract the attention of people to the website. The site where the article was published has a long and prominent history of publishing misinformation. The website is named as World News Daily Report. The website is a satire site which publishes stories with fictional characters and it has similarly updated and published stories about human sexually assaulting orang-utans, gorillas, and octopuses. The self-made story mentioned all the minor details from where and how the incident took place to how he was transferred to the hospital. It can be stated that through the sources mentioned in this particular story is considerably a piece of fake news. The shown pictures are similarly not relevant because each picture originally belongs to a different source with actual truth. The story was written as a fictional story in order to attract more people to visit the website. Article 5 The article “Was Flight MH370 Found with an Eerie Black Box Recording Saying: “SOS, They are not human”?” is fake because there was no black box recording found after the incident of flight MH370. This is another internet hoax links missing Malaysian Airlines Flight with guess what? Aliens. Informed View The news claim that a recording of a black box has appeared presenting a strange note which proposes the disappearance of the Malaysian Flight involved aliens. After a long wait and unsuccessful efforts in terms of investigation have presented the outcomes predictably in bizarre intrigue theories. However, there was no official responses and an in-depth analysis from not even a single reliable source in regards to the question “how the plane vanished?” The unofficial resources claimed an outlandish fantasy that the plane was taken by space aliens. This news was published in an article reporting with the statement that “a black box recording has surfaced featuring an eerie message that suggested the disappearance of involved aliens.” Thus, the truth is that there is no black box found from the flight MH370. Article 6 The article “Did a Greenpeace activist get his arm bitten off after hugging a white shark?” prominently claims that a white shark has attacked a Greenpeace activist while he was trying to hug a shark in the Indian Ocean. Informed View It has been proved that the published article on an irrelevant website is completely fake because the website already has a famous history of publishing misinformation. The article mentioned the attack of the white shark was perceived when an environmental activist was trying to hug the shark. It also stated that the attack was extremely dangerous because the activist was almost killed. However, the used image in the article was of Kaleb Langdale, who was in real attacked by a huge alligator in Florida back in 2012. The fake website as World News Daily shows a disclaimer identifying all of its content as “sarcastic” in nature. The news is not genuine since it belongs to an unofficial and fake website. Article 7 The article “Cabbage Batch Skid” is based on a video in which a man was making synthetic cabbage to be sell in American's restaurants and supermarkets. The video portrays a Chinese vendor, who was involved in making a wax demonstration of vegetables that have been used out of setting to propose China is giving fake cabbages to unaware customers. Informed View The article deliberates a video representing a Chinese seller making “fake cabbages” for sale specifically in American cafes and supermarkets.
