It is an intentional act of letting die with the least amount of attainable suffering. The only reason for euthanasia should be in the best interest of the patient as their life is taken. This concept focuses on one's purpose and concern when making some decisions. While euthanasia's purpose is to act out of mercy, it is very controversial to understand and practice, reflecting differing ethical, cultural, and legal perspectives (Brassington, 2020). Determination of whether an action is euthanasia or not is related to an understanding of intent and motivation, which can only be made with clear definitions. Types of Euthanasia Active and passive euthanasia are two types of euthanasia depending on how the life of a person is terminated. Active euthanasia refers to a situation whereby there is a willingness to actively cause death, for example, by administering lethal poison. It is done with an intention, and the purpose is to ease pain or suffering and with no other aim than the benefit of the patient. Passive euthanasia means withdrawing life-sustaining equipment to end one's life. For example, removing a ventilator or pulling the plug on feeding tubes, thereby letting a person die.
