English Language in Bahrain
Name:
Institution:
Being in fourth year and my final year as a student taking the verities of English course, I carried out a study on the language in the Middle East and Bahrain. Located in the Middle East within the Persian Gulf, Bahrain is home to more than 670,000 residents out of who approximately 70% are Shia Muslims and the rest are Sunni. Officially thecountry uses the Arabic language; however, the English language is also widely used throughout the country. Within the schools systems, the English language is a compulsory for the students as the second language. The language also extends its influence in the business world. The vast majority of the non-Bahraini use the Iran’s official language called the Farsi while the other use Pakistani’s official language called the Urdu. While most of the radio and television stations broadcast solely on the Bahrain language, there are some newspapers and magazines that in English. It is also common to find that most of the businesses use the language to communicate to the customers, and by extension majority of the western companies use English.
However, it is easy to get by without having to master the English language in Bahrain, which is why a good number of the residents do not take it as serious. The study of the English language within the Bahrain borders would help sensitize the citizens to embrace the language. The English language has become very crucial in the world, thanks to the fact that the USA and the UK are at the top of the super powers. It is common to find that, when a country that speaks a certain language gains super power status, its official language tends to be adapted by the rest of the world.
