Electors with disabilities have had a tough time and exclusion when it comes the time of elections. They are not taken care of by the elections body to an extent that many of them end up not voting. Despite many efforts by the civil society groups effort to fight for their rights to vote the elections body have been reluctant to address the issues hindering the disabled to participate in a democratic election. In addition, political parties as well as the disabled candidates do not consider the issues affecting the disabled electors in their day to day activities.
For the political parties, electors with disability do not seem to have any say in regard to the societal development especially the visually and mentally impaired. Therefore, they tend to concentrate on the electors who seem to them as they are of great help to the party development. To the parties, the electors with disabilities are more of a liability than an asset thus having them on board will cost the party a lot. In addition, the mode of voting have not been developed much to cater for the disabled thus making the parties not to consider the disabled as they may not be fully involved in the election process ( Prince, 2012).
Similarly, the candidates with disabilities do not have confidence in their fellow electors with disability as some of them may not make a decision of their own and rely upon their guardians. Instead of helping their own they end up concentrating with issues which the majority of the electors are in order to win their votes. Therefore, the core issue here is the selfish ambition of the candidates as well as the political parties.
