A Change in the Way We Deal With People
When dealing with people, we should always put in our minds that we are not dealing with some sort of creatures of logic, but rather, with creatures of emotions, and creatures who are bustling with prejudices, whose motivation is in vanity and pride. Ever has it been that people are always yearning for approval, acceptance and appreciation. In dealing with people therefore, ones actions must be premised on satisfaction of these three fundamental human hungers. And once you project a personality that harbors these elements- the three basic foods, it follows that people will be predictably attracted to you.
If therefore you conduct yourself in your relation with others in a way that is consistent with these elements, your conduct will thus be respectful to not only yourself but also to others. Lack of these people skills can easily lead one into things like manipulating others in order to get what you want, or get you going into greater extents of getting people to like you. (Reece, 2011) These people skills which are wrapped in that principle manifest themselves in a similar way whether it`s in being at your very best to contribute to a common good, whether it`s in being sensitive to the needs of others or even guarding yourself from being unreasonably critical of others.
In dealing with people, the practice of people-skills can easily land one into dishonesty. This may occur when you chose the easy way of just accepting and approving things that you are not in agreement with. As such, practice and skill is of essence in responding to these key human hungers - approval, acceptance and appreciation. It requires you to consider only that which you appreciate and approve, it will also require you to abstain from judging people both with your action and within the privacy of your own mind- this will make you a better person. (Jones, 1997)
In changing the way you deal with people, you must take into account the parameters of your actions that should have a basis of feeding approval, appreciation and acceptance. In addition, what should motivate one in changing how they deal with others is the dynamics of people`s personalities. (Reece, 2011) These dynamics may include the age of the person, the physical state of the person, their beliefs, their temperaments, language among others. These are extremities that one may not be accustomed to, therefore, when dealing with such people one may want to change the way they satisfy their acceptance, appreciation and approval.
