In the era of the fast-growing technology of artificial intelligence (AI), its implementation in the educational context is a transformative approach that may generate more opportunities for effective and efficient learning. However, its efficacy in education may be related to its selective employment and vigilant supervision. Hence, AI can improve educational strategies but only partially replace traditional approaches. It may only be effective when a cautious approach is employed with the ethical and responsible use of AI.
First, AI uniquely provides personalized study situations tailored to specific student needs through intelligent tutoring services (ITS) through platforms like mobile applications. ITS applies AI to adapt learning networks for personalized learning according to every student's learning characteristics and state. Based on these findings, the systems implement machine learning algorithms that predict students' weakest areas of a course and suggest individualized learning materials. Despite the positive experimental study results about ITS increasing students' academic performance, there are more questions to be answered as to the exact functions of ITS. Consequently, understanding the mechanisms underlying their effectiveness and deeply integrating them within the educational contexts (Gillani et al., 2023, pp. 102-103). An example of an application is Duolingo, which enables learners of different languages to learn new languages. AI drives this, and business hours can be customized based on student schedules. It provides a lesson course ranging from listening exercises to flashcards and multiple choice questions that are adjusted with the progression rate and the learner's preferences. However, unlike Duolingo, with its emphasis on interactive learning styles, how efficient it is in attaining fluency needs to be clarified. The app may be appealing to German learners of English with its gamification and persistent reminders. Still, it fails to deliver comprehensive and total language proficiency due to its inability to address complex grammar structures, cultural nuances, and conversational intricacies. Duolingo increases the engagement and understanding of language learners and provides flexibility as it is accessible with an internet connection. However, it cannot substitute for the traditional teaching methods due to the lack of complete immersion and provision of possible actual conversations that need to be structured. Although AI propagates classical teaching strategies such as those on Duolingo, there is a principal need to develop a multifaceted method to achieve inclusiveness and facilitate an effective language learning process. Ravenscraft iterated in The New York Times, "You can learn as many words or sentences as you want, but until you can have a conversation with another person, you'll never be fluent." Therefore, AI cannot replace conventional learning. Still, it will generate tools and resources with further improvement of educational strategies, providing abundant materials that give both flexibility and focus on the specific needs of the students (Ravenscraft, 2019).
Second, introducing AI-enhanced tools dramatically expands efficiency, and the faculty can now spend their time on instructional approaches and other student issues better. A research team from Stanford University and MIT found that in a Fortune 500 software company, generative AI systems had increased customer service worker productivity by an average of 14%. The year-long research, often regarded as the first survey that directly assesses the real-world implications of Generative AI, covered 5,179 customer service agents from a Philippine-based company that provides business apps for small- and medium-sized enterprises. The team was split into two, half having access to AI-powered tools and the other. The efficiency and customer satisfaction increased with the help of the AI system that combined OpenAI's language learning model with machine learning algorithms to provide users with suggestions and internal documentation in real-time. Additionally, the resea...
