This chapter examines the direction through which action, talk, and thought develop as a consequence of using drugs (p.185). Drugs assist users to get what they to achieve. Achieving such intention is normally more important than what the drug user wants to avoid or escape the reality. The consequences that the drugs produce depend on what the user wants to achieve. Most users take drugs to escape sufferings like internal conflicts or external stress. The problems faced by the user are majorly self-created. The problems occur due to his response to the role which he is expected to fulfill.
Drugs provide a user with an opportunity to escape from his boredom, from impacts of his irresponsibility and from his negative perception about himself (p.187). What the drug user searches (through taking drug) is more significant than what he tries to avoid or escape in reality. He searches for more fascinating state of mind.
